Admiral Mohab Mameesh, chairman of the Suez Canal Authority and Suez Canal economic zone, said that the cost of implementing Basin 2 at Sokhna Port is 550 million dollars. He noted that it will be finished by March 2021.

Admiral Mohab Mameesh added that the size of completion of this project, all right to Dubai Ports World, till now is 50%. He noted that the company executing the project has dug the basin without the use of dredgers, where the water is drawn in a certain way to the depth “minus 17” which is the first in Egypt.

The Admiral explained that dry drilling in generally is done till “zero level”, groundwater level, but the project for Basin 2 is to dry water till “minus 17” and this will help reduce the cost of the project.

Mameesh confirmed that Basin 2 includes a 1350 meter berth, which will accommodate 4 ships at once assuming that the length of a large vessel ranges from 250 to 300 meters. He pointed out that the aim of the project is to increase the capacity of the port to receive a large number of vessels.
