Admiral Mohab Mameesh: We didn’t prevent the passage of ships heading to Syria in the Suez Canal

Admiral Mohab Mameesh, chairman of the Suez Canal Authority and Suez Canal economic zone said that what has been circulating on social networking news pages about preventing the passage of vessels loaded with oil to Syria isn’t true.

 

He added that there is no truth behind the rumours assuring that the Suez Canal is committed to acting in accordance with international conventions and agreements, especially the Constantinople Convection which guaranteed safe navigation for all transit ships without discrimination between countries. This is important for the Canal to remain an avenue of prosperity and development for the world.

The chairman of the Suez Canal Authority stressed that the Egyptian state is keen to manage this global navigational facility effectively and impartially, and enable it to work to achieve the interests of Egyptians and the world regarding world trade movement including necessities of life such as fuel, food, medicine and others without delay.

Admiral Mohab Mameesh followed up saying that the Suez Canal Authority calls on citizens to be careful when dealing with websites or social media pages that publish or broadcast false information and news. He stressed that dealing with such matter should be through the official Suez Canal Authority website www.suezcanal.gov.eg
