Admiral Mohab Mameesh, Chairman of the General Suez Canal Authority, opened the art exhibition of “Shuryan Al-Khair” on the 63rd anniversary of Gamal Abdel Naser’s decision to nationalize the Suez Canal International Company as an Egyptian Joint Stock Company. The opening of the exhibition occurred today, Friday evening, at Al-Bab Hall in the museum of Modern Egyptian Art at the Egyptian Opera House.
The main idea of the exhibition revolves around the reproduction of the international work of the Italian and French artists whose drawings and paintings document the history of the Suez Canal. Some of the paintings depict the digging, opening and nationalizing of the Canal. In addition, there are commemorative coins, postage stamps, invitation posters and documents of the channel’s digging. Moreover, the exhibition includes a collection of architectural models for archeological buildings and models of marine units, derricks, trains and equipment as well as creative paintings.
The exhibition comprised 73 artists and 60 artistic pieces ranging from drawings to oil paintings, photography, carton forms, origami, carving of scraps, works of ceramics and carvings. The guest of honor of the salon was Dr. Abdel Salam Eid, Professor of the art of murals in the Faculty of Fine Arts in Alexandria University.
